What is Australia's most collected wine?
Penfolds Grange wins Peoples’ Choice award
Penfolds’ famous Bin 95 Grange Shiraz has been named as Australia’s Most Collected
Wine after an exhaustive cataloguing of more than 3,000,000 bottles of wine in cellars
across the country.
“The popularity of this wine is phenomenal,” said leading wine critic Jeremy Oliver.
“While it’s obviously great for wineries to receive accolades from wine critics and
reviewers, what really counts is what consumers want to collect, which is why this
award is so significant.
To determine the winner of today’s award, leading wine storage provider Wine Ark
catalogued their mammoth collection of more than 3,000,000 bottles of wine cellared
throughout the country.
“We store more than 25,000 bottles of Grange in our cellars alone,” said Wine Ark
Managing Director Dean Taylor.
“This is a significant portion of our overall collection, which has a conservative value of
around $250 million. The most expensive wine we’re currently cellaring is a 1951
Penfolds Bin 1 Grange Shiraz, worth around $50,000.
“There are thousands of different types of wines, varietals and blends so it’s a significant
achievement for today’s finalists to be recognised as being the most popular in each of
the respective categories.”
