$2012 Vietti Reserva Villero Barolo - Single Vineyard Cru Barolo @vietti_vino I love fondling Barolo. Located nearby the village of Castiglione Falletto, the Villero vineyard faces South/South-west with Vietti owning a little less than one hectare. Villero is one of the most fractionalized subzones of Castiglione, just over 22 hectares that sit at an altitude of between 230 and 350m above sea level. Vines are an average of 40 years of age with total production for the 2012 vintage with only 3,860 standard bottles, 100 magnums. The 2012 is the 13th edition of Vietti’s Riserva. The first release was the 1982 vintage, where the Villero has since been graced with an artist label (hello @leeuwinestate ! 😊). This 2012 label was designed by celebrated architect Renzo Piano. To be elevated to Riserva classification, the wine must undergo fermentation in stainless steel, malolactic fermentation in barrique, a long slumber in 30hl Slavonian oak casks and further time in bottle, before its ultimate release after seven years. By contrast, most Barolo Riservas spend a mere five years ageing. It is always a pleasure coming to work to play custodian to super wines like this for a very long standing storage clients. Perennial favourite Lake’s Folly Cabernets retained its Number 1 Ranking as ‘Australia’s Most Collected Cabernet Blend’ which it has held for the past 13 years. Along with 4th overall Most Collected Wine in Australia. There has been some discussion around the traps noting the dominance of this wine in Sydney, however (whilst not naming names / numbers) there is a substantial amount of Lakes Folly in both Brisbane and Melbourne cellars confirming this wines appeal to all wine collectors regardless of residence. Australia's Most Collected Wine 2019 – Penfolds Grange… reclaiming first place as the most collected wine in the country. Due to the number of bottles in the count, it takes a large change to shift wines in the Top 10. The rise of Penfolds Grange to be the most collected wine in Australia, which is also one of the country’s most expensive wines, again emphasises the importance of this iconic wine to Australian wine collectors. The first vintage was made on an experimental basis in 1951 by Penfolds winemaker Max Schubert. There were then a number of hidden vintages until the wine went into full production. @penfolds .
